It's true, Salt Lake City's downtown area will be receiving a face lift via the Mormon church's redevelopment plan (City Creek Center) announced October 3. Buildings will be torn down (The Inn at Temple Square, Key Bank Building and Deseret Tower) and eight blocks will be born from what is now two enormous blocks.
The renovation includes a new outdoor shopping mall (to encourage foot pedestrians), condos, a sky bridge, grocery store, and lots of green space. You can read about it here and here. If you are planning to visit Salt Lake City any time soon, plan on it being a huge mess - until 2011.

That is so interesting. Perfect timing, I could see myself in Salt Lake in about 5 years. Thanks for finding out this! I didn't know.
