A ganglion cyst {AKA Bible Bump}...on my wrist. I met with a specialist today who confirmed that it existed and that I was validated in feeling pain. Rather then deal with this thing swelling and hurting and limiting the use of my hand, I've decided to have it removed; aspirated. Yeah, I said aspirated. I'll be going under the knife a week from Wednesday for the 8th time. Alternative methods of treatment include:
"One traditional method of treating a ganglion cyst was to strike the lump with a large, heavy book. And since even the poorest households usually possessed a Bible, that was what they used, which is how ganglion cysts came to be nicknamed "Bible Bumps" or sometimes "Gideon's Disease." This method of treatment is no longer recommended as patients risk damage to the surrounding area."

I am a random blogger who found your blog from a link list of a link list of a friend. Funny enough I have the same cyst problem on my wrist. I havent done anything about it but would love to hear how your surgery goes. If all goes well I might follow in your footsteps. Oh and I plan on getting real tonight!
I have this as well. It´s annoying and strange looking but not painful so I haven´t yet decided to do the surgery. Pls. let us know how it goes!
Oh, and I love your "get real" and "Blog-Tonia" posts :)
i had one, and my doctor indeed slammed my wrist with a bible. it didn't really hurt, and my wrist immediately felt better...but now i'm worried that i have internal damage that i'm unaware of. gulp...
Ouch!
Tonia...good luck with your surgery next week. I'm headed for knee surgery in the near future myself. Not fun!
I also had one of these, but before I could do anything about it--it went away! Nice eh? The doctor said i would probably have to get surgery, I guess I proved him wrong!
