SFO: Several years ago as I was flying to San Francisco for work I spotted a girl at the airport with such natural beauty, I haven't forgotten her. Mind you, at the time I saw her I was trying to schlepp two heavy suitcases and a laptop bag onto the BART - I was sweating and felt about as attractive as wool sock. This girl was carrying a duffel bag and wearing a team jacket that instantly identified her as a track runner. She was sleek and lean and not heaving or carrying 3x her weight in bags. She oozed natural ease and simplicity. She was listening to her iPod and casually making her way in a pair of seven jeans that fit her perfectly. As she plopped down in a seat on the train I noticed she was wearing a pair of gray chuck taylors. Her bewitching face and those shoes. Perfect, right? About a year later my mom and dad got me a pair for Christmas.
RNO: Just last week as Nate and I were languishing at the Reno airport waiting to catch a flight that never flew, I spotted a blonde girl wearing the perfect outfit for the slushy cold weather. She had on skinny jeans tucked into a pair of black wellies, a black down filled coat and a beanie with brim. Her messy blonde hair tucked under the collar of her coat. She was carrying her snowboard bag and a fabulous purse and just looked like a girl with style. Sadly, I didn't look nearly as put together in lounge pants and uggs. I was dragging my poorly packed bags and doing what I could with two-day hair. Luckily mother nature forced South West to cancel all flights so I got a second chance the next day. Here's a pointer though, after you've seen a stunning girl at the airport and all you have is the dirty clothes in your suitcase...it's a lost cause. Just deal with it.

Okay, YES. I hate this. I even TRY sometimes to be THAT girl at the airport. And when I leave the house, I think I've got it. I'm going for the Jessica Simpson at LAX look. The "I don't care, it's just a long plane ride, but I really do - how's my hair look, look." And still, no matter how hard I try, some girl upstages me. And she's sitting in the corner, even, as if she doesn't want everyone to see her perfect-ness. And there I am, front and center, with my dark shades on so that no one can see my eyes as they dart around to see what homely girl is staring at ME! But, alas, no one.
Oh, I'm sorry, Tonia. My friend Bree thinks that she can hijack the blogs that I read. So sorry. I'll punch her cyberly for you. ha
Go ahead caradee, whoever you are, that tries to be my friend, but really i have no idea who you are and you're just trying to look like you know me because my comments are so "in tune" and "
right on." It's too bad that your reaction is merely to my comment and not the actual post itself because you, yourself, have yet to experience life in an airport. Hmmm....Relish...Hmmm...too bad. Tonia, don't feel bad for caradee. She's a late twenties mom who desperately searches for drama wherever she can find it and soaks it up until the towel is sopping wet because really - what else is there in life.
(ps. so sorry for completely destroying the sincerity of your post about airport chics and their plan to destroy us normal girls, but caradee had to be put in her place. it was necessary.
Okay, now I hate you both...boo hoo
As I get ready for Kauai I'm going to dismiss everything I said in this post. I'm going to be comfortable and love the way I look even if I wake up late and show up at the airport in wrinkled, dirty pajamas and a uni-brow. I'm owning it ladies. OWNING IT>
Well Tonia, you ARE going to Kauai. Does it really matter what you look like? Even if you look just like me right now (nasty old brown tank top, flannel PJ bottom, and ratty hair) you're ten times cooler JUST because you're going to Kauai. Uggh. Now I hate you too.
Ooh, Kauai sounds so nice right now! I just had to say hi, I found you from Emilystyle's blog and you keep writing about Reno! I am always curious to see an outsider's perspective on this town as it is changing so much. And I totally want to be that girl in the airport too! It is always my dream and I always end up looking tired and schlubby no matter how much I plan.
And I am going to repress telling you all the fun things you should go do in Kauai (I'm spoiled, I have family there) but if you need some tips, just holler!
My twn sister is a lawyer in DC. When she comes for a visit in CO, I can't wait to see what she steps off the plane in. Last time, she had on skin tight skinny jeans and a cashmere sweater and 3.5 inch high heeled boots. There was ice everywhere here. Too funny!
I'm glad other people feel the same way I do. Wanting to achieve the perfect blend of looking fabulous and naturally casual while standing in the Southwest Que.
I wonder if some girl, somewhere, has written a post on her blog about girls she's seen at the airport and one of them was me...
