WHAT COVERS DO YOU LIKE?

Is it Radiohead playing The Smiths? Or The Smashing Pumpkins playing the every fabulous Landslide by Fleetwood Mac?
I'm on a quest for the best covers. If you have a favorite I'd love to know. Share your covers with me?

Cat Power - The Covers Record... I promise you'll love it, but I'm guessing you already have it? Also, The Late Great Daniel Johnston - The Covers.

I adore the Sonic Youth cover of Superstar - even though it's been getting a ton of Juno-related play, I still think that it's pretty darned perfect. As a kid I loved the Lagwagon cover of Brown-Eyed Girl...

Off the top of my head - the Beck cover of David Bowie's Diamond Dogs is very cool and creepy while remaining very true to the original. Also, I love most any cover by Cake, there's one floating around of them doing Black Sabbath's War Pigs that I kind of love too.

Nickel Creek covering Brittney Spears "Poison"

Trust me, if you like bluegrass this will knock your socks off

Definitely Nouvelle Vague’s cover of The Killing Moon originally by Echo and the Bunnymen. And Mad World by Michael Andrews originally by Tears for Fears. The one from the film Donnie Darko.

Radiohead's cover of Carly Simon's Nobody Does It Better. I have a live version of Thom Yorke introducing it as, "Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the sexiest song ever written..."

Danny Michel's entire record of Bowie covers -- "Loving the Alien." If you love Danny Michel and Bowie this is a record to be left alone with...

I'm scared to admit, but I love Britney's version of My Perogative - its so much edgier and racier.

Okay- here's mine. John Hartford's (old-time/bluegrass legend) version of Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart," and Leftover Salmon's version of Taj Mahal's "Lovin' In My Baby's Eyes."

I'd have to second Brandi's recommendations plus add a few others. Ryan Adams covering Oasis on Wonderwall! I would also throw in Johnny Cash covering NIN Hurt, Okkervil River Black Sheep Boy, Stars covering Morrissey's This Charming Man.

P.S. Speaking of Britney Spears, Travis does a nice rendition of Did It Again. Of course I have to remind myself that these songs weren't actually written by Ms. Spears and therefore one can appreciate the renditions without appreciating the pop star. A twist on the whole love the sinner, hate the sin thing.
