Though from an early time Karen Carpenter filled my head with the idea of rainy days and mondays being big downers, I happen to like a rainy day—as long as I can determine what I do on such a day. If I have to be out sloshing though the water trying to get Christmas shopping done, I may have a different take. But if I'm calling the shots, bring on the rain!
How to Begin: First, it's important to wake up in a warm, cozy bed to the sound of the rain outside. This begins the relaxation process. One of my favorite things about this part of the day is that the sky is usually dark and my bedroom remains undisturbed by sunlight.
What to Eat: Meals on rainy days must consist of cooked cereals, soups, teas and other warm drinks. I like soups with lots of chunky vegetables. Nate and I went to Kneaders the other day and their soups and sandwiches are really good.
The Uniform: On a rainy day, you don't have to shower or spend time on your hair or makeup. This is a day to embrace your inner hippie and go natural. I like to wear my pj pants and pull on a hoodie from Nate's closet. Footwear is strictly uggs or ugg-like boots. Hair should be in a ponytail or bun.
Appropriate Activities: Rainy days are perfect for snuggling. If you have someone else to snuggle with, go for it. If you find yourself snuggling with a down blanket, go for it. Activities you should engage in on rainy days include; reading, watching dr zhivago or similar movies, napping, working on a creative project and lite organization. This is not a day to be scrubbing toilets or vacuuming the floors. At the end of a rainy day it's perfectly appropriate to cook a good meal and then retire to the bathroom for a hot soak in the tub.
Must-have Raincoats: Finally, if you must go out, please take care to stay dry. If you are just running out for a paper, it is perfectly appropriate to wear this from patagonia:
If you are like me and you have to go to work, you might want to consider something a little more chic. When in doubt, go to Burberry for a good raincoat.
