GOT IT; LOVE IT

Got this rug after it went on sale at William Sonoma Home. I unrolled it into our front room and I instantly fell in love with it. It's so plush and it makes the room feel very cozy.

Nate and I visited the nearby Downeast Home this morning to see if there were any good deals to be had. And, yes! There were!
We scored the Presidio couch, from William Sonoma Home, in caramel leather {retails online for $5,600} for a whopping $1,600! In Nate's words, "we just made $4,000". We also got a great deal on the Arlington Armchair from Potterybarn. It retails for $1,049 and we paid $600. The last thing we bought was a mirrored buffet from Horchow. This piece had no cracks and kept all its nobs. Regularly $1,850, we paid $600.
The first two pieces will go in the den in the front of the house and the buffet will sit in our dining room. It feels great to get good deals on quality pieces and slowly. but. surely. put our house together. I'll include photos when the pieces arrive next week.

GET IT?

Restoration Hardware has a 20% sale going on to celebrate the fed slashing rates. Nate and I have wanted a chaise in our great room and I really like the shape of this one. The question is, should we get it? I've picked out soft cotton {stain resistant and wears well} in goldenrod {a neutral color that can be brightened up with pillows}. The sale ends tomorrow so I've got to make a decision quickly. It saves nearly $500. Thoughts?

























UPDATE: I got it. In linen rather than cotton. I'm a grownup who invests in fine furniture now. Look at me!

GOD SAVED THE QUEEN; I COULDN'T BUY HER

After checking out all the used gear for sale at the Black Diamond swap yesterday {more on that later} Nate and I went to Park City to test out new skis, helmets, boots and coats so we would know what to buy through our friend who is a rep for Head.
When we had sufficiently burned ourselves out on gear shopping we decided to detour through Salt Lake City on our way home in order to stop at Elemente. We bought a danish modern chair for cheap and plan to recover the cushions. Behind the counter at Elemente I noticed a God Save The Queen poster and was getting incredibly excited to purchase and hang it in our house. But, it wasn't for sale and to quote the excentric woman behind the counter, "it's not for sale and probably never will be."
Now, I'm married to a sales guy, and I work with a lot of them, too. I've grown up hearing the phrase, "everything is for sale, for the right price". And for a moment I thought about making some crazy offer to this woman who very easily could have been related to Big and Little Edie from Grey Gardens. But I refrained because while I still believe in the religion of everything being for sale, I also have deep faith in the internet and know I can find almost anything if I use the right search terms.
Happy. Ending. I found a Sex Pistols God Save the Queen poster in the UK for CHEAP and I think I'll buy it.

A WEEK IN JACKSON HOLE, WY

I just got home from our executive retreat in Jackson Hole. I haven't been there in about 5 years but I love it just the same! Jackson holds a lot of memories for me and I was happy to create a few more to add to the collection.
While I was shopping around town I stumbled into the Mangy Moose Emporium and immediately fell in love with this piece of art. Part tribute to my childhood, part Andy Warhol I couldn't stop looking at it. Due to the price tag I just didn't feel right about purchasing it on the spot; I wanted to consult with Nate first.
I took a few snaps and when I got home, and after I told him how much I loved it, he said, "I think you should get it". I'm incredibly happy to say I'll be placing the order very soon.

MY DECO FILE

If you are like me you have dozens of folders on your C drive or your desktop labeled "inspiration" or "pretty things" and they are chock full of images that move or inspire you. But how do you access them or stay organized in any way when they are scattered EVERYWHERE?

WHEN THE CAT'S AWAY, THE MOUSE SHOULD HAVE PLAYED

I should have thought of this sooner. Nate has been in Las Vegas since Monday and it would have been the perfect time to add a rug to his office, hang all the art we've decided goes there, and made it look all cozy and pretty for him. Why am I only thinking about this on Wednesday night? Nate returns home on Friday...not nearly enough time to do anything credible. Well, one thing is for sure, he'll have another trip that is long and I'll be at home watching way too much "Cold Case". All the photos are from Apartment Therapy.

KATIE LEE JOEL'S HOME

Domino features the beautiful home of Katie Lee and Billy Joel. She's lovely. The home is soft, warm and faded. This was a project taken on by architect Ahmad Sardar-Afkhami and decorator Nate Berkus {Oprah's lap dog}. If I could completely knock-off a home this would be it. It's the kind of house I could live in while brilliantly writing a novel that would claim it's place in history. Unfortunately, Nate and I don't make as much money as Billy Joel. Nor do we make as much as Billy Joel's personal assistant. So we'll settle for whatever I can impersonate on our budget.

BUENAS DIAS HEADBOARD

Wisteria has these glorious headboards. I love the carousel featured in the Buenas Dias one. Completely whimsical. Wouldn't these be perfect for the twin girls {Clementine and Poppy} Nate and I will eventually have?

SUMMER COMMITTMENT

Nate and I have recommitted to more decorating this summer. Since our economic stimulus check totaled $75, we will depend on the cash earned by the sweat of our brows to add fabulous details to our home. Nate's office is up for some love. We like these rugs from Anthropologie.

HUNTING FOR PRINTS

I'm looking for prints to go in our bedroom. It's fairly sparse right now and I actually like it that way. Not a lot to distract; just enough to relax and calm the mind. I'd love to add some yellow to the bedroom walls though so if you've seen any pretty prints {with yellow}, let me know. In the meantime, I'm thinking about adding this to the "maybe" pile.

CAN WE? SHALL WE?

This hand screenprint from Rob Ryan might be the very most perfect gift to give your lover for a birthday, anniversary, or just for no reason at all. I love the fun little story and how it reminds me of the relationship between Joel and Clementine in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
