GUILTY PLEASURE: KING OF QUEENS

If all the stars align and I'm sitting on the couch at 9pm, I like to watch the back-to-back episodes of King of Queens. I saw this episode tonight and Doug teaching Carrie to pole dance is pretty much one of the best moments on TV.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

Maybe I'm quoting the wrong girl {they all look the same: used}, but I think it was Ambre, from Rock of Love 2, that said this in an episode Nate and I were grazing on tonight.

"These pigs went to college because they were smarter than they looked."

I reckon that when you are selecting pigs to wrestle with you should get ones that are still studying for the GED.

TWO COMMERCIALS THAT MAKE ME GIGGLE

This one because the burger sings an Air Supply song:

And this one because the guy does a sensual Flashdance impersonation:

HBO VOYEUR

I saw this and became fascinated. Such an interesting concept to put the viewer in an uncomfortable yet impossible-to-ignore situation. To be a voyeur. To be undetected.

LAST NIGHT I ALMOST FELL IN LOVE WITH A TIGER SHARK NAMED DELORIS

The rows of teeth. The menacing eyes. The small but very real chance I have of being hunted, maimed and/or killed while frolicking innocently in the ocean. The Discovery Channels 20th Anniversary must-see, Shark Week, started Sunday and it doesn't disappoint.
Sunday night I learned the ten most dangerous sharks {great white is no. 2 and the bull shark is no. 1 because it can swim in rivers as well as the ocean}.
Last night I watched, "Deadly Stripes: Tiger Sharks" which was fascinating. South African Mark Addison free dives {that means he isn't using oxygen, just a snorkel. p.s. he can dive for up to six minutes on one breath at a depth of 150 feet} with tiger sharks; trying to dispel the myth that they are man-hunters. It was mesmerizing as he interacted with one tiger shark he called Deloris. He petted her, held on to her dorsal fin like a sea world performer, and scariest of all, he fed her by hand.

Just when I was buying the idea that the shark could be friendly and beautiful, I saw the beginning of Top Five Eaten Alive reliving one girl's shark attack which resulted in her losing the bottom half of her leg. I had to turn it off because I knew I was going to have shark dreams for the next year {I TiVo'd it for watching in digestible segments throughout the week}.

If you love to hate sharks like me, you must tune in for what they are saying is the best year yet.

TERMS OF ENDEARMENT

Nate and I have a conversation like this about every week and a half. Somehow I never end up with a cute name like cupcake. I'm usually "eyebrows" because of my expressive face-pulling habit, and Nate ends up "sugar lips" or "sum yung guy" {said with Japanese accent}.

Love Bites is a micro series that played on TBS earlier this year. The super short episodes are pretty cute and have some very real and relatable moments regarding relationships between men and women.

Ferrets: The Pursuit of Excellence

If you watch movies, you've probably seen Best in Show. And if you are VERY lucky, you've seen Gates of Heaven. They all have one thing in common. The joy of quirky enthusiasts {real and fake} that are simply too enthusiastic to believe.
Well, here's another documentary to add to your library. Ferrets: The Pursuit of Excellence. You won't believe the devotion these people have for their weasely pets; when you hear the Ferret song you'll not believe your ears. If you get a chance to enjoy this on PBS, capture it on TiVo and share it with your friends; I guarantee you won't be disappointed. But you might be left slack jawed at the costumed ferrets wondering, "could this be real?"

FOR BODY AND BOUNCE

This commercial actually made me laugh outloud. I'm glad they've come up with some new ideas. I was growing tired of the moaning and "oh, yeses".

GREAT COMMERCIAL!

To think I was one of those people that hated him. Especially just after I put on lip gloss!

FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS

Amie introduced me to the musical comedy act comprised of Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement who, in their own words used to be "New Zealand's 4th most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo". They are currently working on a 12-part series for HBO entitled, Flight of the Conchords, which depicts them trying to make it big in NYC.
You MUST watch their performances on youtube because they are just the right amount of strange, dry witted humor that will make you laugh until you cry.

MY WORST NIGHTMARE

This is, in fact, my worse nightmare. I'm pretty sure I even saw something similar to this at the lake a few nights ago. Argh.

LUCKY RABBIT'S FOOT

This commercial is both clever and funny. Yet, I can never remember what they are advertising.

AMAZING PLANET EARTH

I first saw the trailer for Planet Earth {Discovery Channel} about a month ago and froze in my chair, unblinking. I was mezmerized. This 11 part series narrated by Sigourney Weaver will have you scurrying around the desert sand with a sidewinder one moment and walking the crest of a dune with the bactrian camel the next. Mixing drama from one animal preying off another with the absultely edifying education about our amazing planet and all the animals that walk the dirt, swim the waters and fly the air; I love this show. Every episode!
After reading Ali's post about the series and some of the comments left there, I really believe this is a series to bridge the gap between man and woman TV viewing habits. Nate and I have been TiVoing the series from the beginning and both agree that the Great White Shark Hunt might have been one of the most intense things we 've seen on film.

Do you remember watching the nature movies in elementary school? This is NOT your grandfather's animal planet. This is the real deal and it took photographers and scientists sometimes years to capture one moment. You'll feel lucky!
You can buy the entire series for $80 here.

THE ONE, THE ONLY: THE OFFICE

Nate and I started watching The Office while we were dating and now we can't remember life without it. The writing is so clever and the execution by the talented cast is priceless. AND through it all, they've managed to throw in a little office competition {Dwight and Andy} and a little office love triangle {Pam, Jim and Karen Filipeli}.
If you haven't spent all your $$ on box sets of Seinfeld, you may want to consider buying past seasons of the Office {US version} but don't be surprised if you end up watching it all in one night.

FIRST TWO OF TWENTY FOUR {24}

Nate and I just watched the first two hours of 24 season six and we weren't disappointed. One thing is for certain, I wish I had the intuition of Jack Bauer. That man is never wrong. He's sporting some nasty looking chemical burn scar on his hand and deep whipping boy scars on his back, but aside from the visual suffering he's experienced in the Chinese prison camp, he's back and ready to take on the next terrorist threat. I wish Jack was real.
At one point he breaks into a house with a terrorist-turned-good and needs to change out of some blood soaked clothes. I imagined myself in this situation and going into the bathroom only to find that the jeans don't fit. This wasn't a risk for Jack since he's been starving in the prison camp but it would be a HUGE concern for me. I'd hold up the entire operation or I'd end up wearing a skirt; running around L.A. carrying a gun and chasing bad guys in a skirt because it's all that would fit. This is one way in which art doesn't imitate life. At least not mine. Hooray for 24 and double hooray for Jack! Tow more hours tomorrow.

PEOPLE'S CHOICE WINNERS

2007 People's Choice Awards were Tuesday, January 9. Now, I have to pause here to explain something about my core beliefs. Core belief #3: Brad Pitt is a chump. I don't have such a problem with Jolie because she's remained pretty genuine and true to who she is. Pitt, on the other hand, has completely transformed himself into a male version of Jolie complete with his new passion piloting a plane and adopting international kiddies. I'm not sure he has his own mind anymore.
That being said, I do find Miss Anniston to be completely adorable and well deserving of winning "Best Female Star" in a movie. And let's not forget how beautiful she is.

Kudos also to "Vaughniston" for how kindly they spoke of one another in their acceptance speaches.

LOVEBITES

Lovebites is a micro-series made especially for the adult with ADD. If you watch TBS, you'll catch the randomly aired 2.5 minute episodes about a young, darling couple (Katie and Max) living in NYC and experiencing the ups and downs of their new relationship.
You can catch up on past episodes here.
The dialogue is quick and witty and captures that fun banter that happens with new relationships. I think Nate and I would have made a good Lovebites couple!
